How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Product 1: Opening for a lifestyle TV show
1. Define your audience
My brief states a target audience of a primarily 16-25-year-old middle market aspirational audience. I will aim to reach first and foremost a niche audience of the 18-21 gap. This is because this group is going to align with the nature of the programme more so. Being a travel programme, people at the of 18 who are seeking a gap year can view my product to find what destinations they may like to go to. Similarly the ages of 21+ may find the programme appealing if they are wanting or aspiring to live life abroad. This part also applies to the lower end of the audience as aspirational 16 year olds who wish to grow up and travel the world.
2. Make a brief list of some of the codes and conventions emerged in your research and how you intend to use, develop or challenge them in your own production.
My research into codes and conventions showed that in Lifestyle TV shows, and especially travel ones, we see a good level of representation. The varying groups of people that we see in the shows provide representation, from different ethnic groups to different genders. . For Industry, Channel Five generally has an audience of an older nature and with my piece I aim to add the age range of 16-25 to the more general audience of Channel 5. The narrative of my show is designed to be taken as it is to face value, a travel show aimed at those who aspire to see the world or live abroad. However, whilst researching my codes and conventions, I discovered that the brief's requirements would create a 'niche' piece for a more broader setting as the majority of the target audience don't generally watch lifestyle television.
Product 2: Website
1. Define your audience
The intended target audience is the 16-25 range and is middle-market as well as aspirational. The website is a core part in reaching this audience which means that it will need to be interesting and not be basic and boring. In addition, being between 16-25, the audience will be more acquainted to technological elements and therefore the website will be able to delve into more complex elements and styles.
2. List of codes and conventions
When we look at industry we know that the website will need to contain a satisfactory degree of Channel 5 advertisement. this may be an abundance of channel 5 logos and/or links to other Channel 5 lifestyle products. We can also explore representation with a crew description that gives representation to those who are key parts of the production without actually staring in it.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of
the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
To link my two products together I think that will use a good amount of referencing to Channel 5 itself, whether this be through a channel 5 pre-show introduction or on the website providing links to other channel 5 productions as well as plenty of images of the channel 5 logo. This would, in my opinion be a good way to demonstrate the digitally convergent nature of my production.
